The Mickey Finn is a popular fly for almost any kind of fishing: Trout, Seatrout, Salmon, Perch, Pike, in fact almost anything. However, we like to use it in saltwater when the seatrout fancy a fly with strong colours. The fly is also good when fishing in coloured water.
The Mickey Finn was a unnamed and a quite unknown pattern until the author John Alden wrote about it. It was originally tied by Quebec fly tier Charles Langevin and the fly got his last name first. In 1937 John Alden took another writer, Greg Clark fishing, Greg described the fly as dangerous as a Mickey Finn, referencing to the drink. The fly got its final name and have been popular ever since
